India Robinson tries for an additional place at the Olympics

Surfing star JAN JUC India Robinson has been announced as part of Team Irukandjis 2022, which will travel to the ISA World Surfing Games in hopes of securing another berth at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Late last week Surfing Australia announced a six-person squad for the ISA Games in California, headlined by World Surf League (WSL) star Sally Fitzgibbons and Championship Tour surfers Callum Robson and Jackson Baker.

The ISA World Surfing Games are a key qualification process that will pave the way for surfers hoping to achieve their Olympic dreams in Paris.

Only two men and two women will qualify for Australia’s national team for Paris, but winning teams from the World Surfing Games in 2022 and 2024 will now have the chance to earn additional Olympic places on top of the previously announced limit.

Robinson will be hoping to clinch one of the additional places in the Australian squad after narrowly missing out on requalification in the 2022-23 World Championship Tour.

In her first year in the top tier, Robinson secured two quarter-finals – one at Sunset Beach in Hawaii and another in Portugal – but narrowly fell to Steph Gilmore in the third round at Margaret River to miss the cut. Mid-season WSL.

The ISA World Surfing Games start tomorrow (Friday September 16).
