Bulli High School on Tuesday won a hotly contested Pines 2018 Surf School competition at The Farm. Featuring over 20 teams from Illawarra schools, with six team members, the competition is a unique event in the surf calendar, but a local surfer is always looking forward to it. The Bulli team, led by Eddy Hamaty and Darci Air, proved too good for their rivals, with Warilla High School taking second place and Shellharbour Anglican College and Holy Spirit College finishing third and fourth respectively. Finn McLaren of Illawarra Grammar School was named Most Valuable Male Surfer, while Air received the Most Valuable Female Surfer Award. The competition featured several surfers who made waves in major junior events, with Lennix Smith competing for Warilla, Tyla and Charli Hurst competing for Corpus Christie, and Will Clarke and Aiden Chamberlain for Holy Spirit College.
