Rhyl sanitary block becomes a kite surf school

A sanitary block will become a kitesurfing school if the plans materialize.

The toilets at the back of an ice cream kiosk on East Parade, Rhyl were reserved for an office as well as training, changing and drying facilities for the school and the town’s Pro-Kite surf club.

An application for an urban planning permit seeks authorization to transform the women’s toilets into a cloakroom with showers, toilets, lockers and storage space for offices.

The second block, currently a metal walkway, will be transformed into a cleaning and drying area for combinations with disabled toilets.

Claimant Simon Jones, owner of the club, said a new front door would be added with a fire door in the back.

The existing men’s washroom in the third block would see all cubicles and urinals removed and redesigned into a ‘relaxation area’ and schooling area.

The toilets near the Rhyl Sun Center were built 10 years ago but have only ever been used for storage. Mr. Jones says all replacement bricks will conform to the style of the gazebo.

A report states: “Men’s cubicles and urinals will be carefully removed, for reuse if necessary, to create more floor space. Plugging all pipes will be done carefully, recessed into the walls just in case they need to be used on another day.

Pro Kitesurfing Courses offer lessons in all aspects of kitesurfing and paddling activities, from basic board control and motorized kite flight to beginner kitesurfing lessons and kite tricks.

The plans will be presented to the Denbighshire Planning Committee in due course.
